@kdfrawg Telegram is pretty decent and I do use it some. But I'm not 100% about the infrastructure so I don't have a lot of trust in their security. Matrix is open source and decentralized which is why I prefer it over other chat platforms these days.
@JeremyCherfas Matrix bridges very nicely between IRC, Slack, and other networks as well. I've been lurking actully in #indieweb via matrix actually.
@matigo Yes Matrix & Riot are excellent imho. But Mattermost is another opensource solution that I think would be a better fit than Slack.
I don't want to hate on Slack, it seems like a fine commercial product. But it really bugs me to see communities around open technologies and/or open source use a close system like this when there are existing open source solutions that work great.
@matigo Yeah it's very weird. I think some slack sales monkey got to the right people at mozilla and the people in charge just don't care about the organizations purpose.
I just don't understand why an organization who's mission revolves around and open internet would promote closed technologies like this. ? https://medium.com/mozilla-festival/using-slack-to-build-connections-at-mozfest-b5da5e397d9f
