I haven't really cared much about where a project is normally if I'm just contributing something. I tend to prefer self-hosting my own projects though. But I'm contemplating starting up a project that others could help contribute to so I wonder if self-hosting would cause others to shy away.

Question for those who like to contribute to open source projects. Does the location where a project is hosted (e.g. GitHub) affect your decision to contribute?

Because it's been a crazy stressful week, and because I have to drive to Bakersfield this weekend, I think I'm going to take tomorrow off work. I need a little downtime.
